On 26th July 2008, a selected group of students from the Dance Club were invited to perform a lively dance item at YMCA. Prior to their performance, the students also participated in the various dance workshops conducted by YMCA, which include Hip Hop, Capoeira, and Lindy Hop. These workshops help to widen the students’ exposure to a variety of dances. From the pictures, it can be seen that both the teachers and students enjoyed themselves.
The students went through rigorous training and practices to put up a brilliant performance on the actual day. Throughout the performance, there were applause and cheers. Through the training, the students learnt about the importance of discipline, commitment, responsibility and teamwork among members from different backgrounds, and personalities. Furthermore, group leaders identified were also groomed in their leadership potential by under the guidance of their Dance teacher, together with the instructor. In addition, other objectives of this performance include exposing the students to more external performances to broaden their dance exposure and learn from others. At the same time, such external performance helped to boost the students’ confidence level (as many of them have low self-esteem after failing their PSLE), and improve their presentation skills in front of crowds, which is a skill set that is useful throughout their life and career in the future.
