In 2009, 16 senior members went through training in Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash, learning how to create basic websites & flash animations, in a collaboration project with Raffles Institution Infocomm Club students and Oracle. In this project, the Raffles Institution students were mentors to our members providing training on the use of the software and Oracle provided the opportunities and platforms for competitions and resources.
The aim is to help the Northlight students feel more confident about themselves, about what they do, as well as to provide them with the skills necessary for possible job opportunities. In today’s modern society, technology has a very important day to day use and has become a necessity rather than something exclusive. Thus, there is a need for these students who do not have a chance to learn on their own, to gain this crucial knowledge and apply it in their daily lives.
Also the aim of RI Infocomm students is to build a strong interest in the minds of NorthLight students in the field of technology and certainly hope that some of these students will build upon this interest and can go on to choose technology as a foundation for their future career options.
The course was conducted within the RI premises itself. This option will permit the RI facilitators to conduct 4 hours of lesson in the morning and 4 hours of lesson in the afternoon. The time period of 8 hours per day was flexible. The pace of the lessons was adjusted according to each group’s learning capabilities and participants had ample time for hands-on experience.
