Meetings :
Thursdays at 3.15pm − 5pm
  • CCA Orientation
On orientation day, we shared about the activities and programmes we do in Girl Guides through power point slides, photographs and uniform display to the new students. We also did outdoor cooking to prepare food and drinks for the new students. We had an overwhelming response with 18 students signing up as new members to become part of the Girl Guides family!

  • Cookie Sales
Guides and guiders embarked on selling Girl Guides cookies to teachers, schoolmates and visitors at NorthLight School. Three of the senior guides presented to various groups of visitors to the school to promote the sale of the cookies. The rest of us were involved in taking orders, packing and delivering cookies to the staff in school. The cookies were sold with the purpose benefiting the orphanages, homes and needy children both in Singapore and overseas, and to support various Girl Guides activities. Through the generosity of many well-wishers, we raised an excess of 220 tins which were donated to children’s homes in Singapore and needy children and villagers in Changmai and Cambodia.

  • World Thinking Day
TWe participated in the East Division celebration of World Thinking Day at Geylang Methodist School on 19th February 2011. It was a morning of fun as we joined hands with thousands of guides from various schools in singing and celebration. We also helped to take care of the senior citizens who were invited to this event. We held on to their hands, distributed goodie bags, served food to them and attended to their needs. In school, we commemorated the World Thinking Day by having an Observance during Assembly. We took to the stage with pride and recited the Guide Promise before the school as the Thinking Day message was read out. It was an honour indeed.

  • Girl guides camp
Although it was a short 2 days/1 night camp in Northlight, it was activities-filled. We had lessons on first aid, played team-bonding games, and prepared a dance item to be performed on Day 2 of the camp. Our seniors were enthusiastic and taught us various dance moves, we practised hard and rehearsed many times to perfect it. Our guiders took us to the cinema for movie at night and brought us to East Coast Park for an early morning stroll and cycling the very next day. We had an enjoyable time! We had lunch at the NorthLight Cafe, whereby our guiders took the opportunity to teach us the etiquette of fine dining.

  • Sports Day
During our Sports Day at Tampines Stadium, we volunteered to serve drinks and refreshments to our teachers and parents. We helped to set up the prize table, and assisted the teachers in the prize-giving ceremony towards the end of the sports event. It was a good experience for us whereby we learned to take initiative and be alert in serving others.

  • National Day Ceremony
We trained very hard alongside the NLS NCDCC cadets for many weeks to prepare for the school’s National Day Celebrations. It was tiring and repetitive but we persisted to keep improving ourselves so that we would look good together as a family. Our seniors and guiders kept encouraging us on. Three of our seniors were part of the Colour Party and the flag bearer. During the ceremony, we shone as we marched with pride for our country and celebrated its birthday.

  • Teachers’ Day We made a bookmark for every teacher at NorthLight School. Each bookmark was specially designed by us with the teachers’ names on them. We wanted to take this opportunity to show our appreciation to the teachers for the time and effort they’ve put in teaching and guiding us, and for being there for us at all times.

  • Miss Joanna Toh
Meetings :
Thursdays at 3.15pm − 5pm
  • CCA Orientation
The senior guides took to outdoor cooking and promoting the CCA during the orientation day. They readily answered questions and passionately spoke about the guides as their family. New members were signed up and given opportunities to join in the fun once the selection of guides was over.

  • Cookie Sales
Guides and guiders embarked on selling two batches of Girl Guides cookies with the newly designed tins promoting the values of YOG; Respect, Friendship and Integrity. The cookie flavours included Chocolate Chip cookies, Chocolate Mint cookies and Chocolate Cream cookies. Three of the guides presented to various groups of visitors to the school to promote the sale of the cookies. We even had canteen sales and sales to staff of NLS. It was very enjoyable! The cookies were sold with a purpose of raising money for the Children’s Home, the needy students of NLS and the Guides House. In total, we raised an excess of 33 tins ($330) which were donated to the Children’s Home and $535 which were donated to the Needy students of NLS.

  • World Thinking Day
The guides participated in the combined World Thinking Day at the Indoor Stadium on the 19th February 2010. They joined hands with thousands of guides from around the island as one big family. It was a morning of fun as we sang songs, danced and enjoyed each other’s company. In school, we commemorated the World Thinking Day by having an Observance during the Assembly on Monday, 21st February 2010. We had practiced hard for the drill and took to the stage with pride as the message was read out and we recited the Guides Promise before the school. It was an honour indeed.

  • Packing the medical kits (CIP)
During our CCA session, we worked together to pack hundreds of medical kits to help the Singapore Cancer Society. It was tough as we learnt how to place the contents list into the plastic pockets and then place the items one at a time into the pocket. We had to ensure the strictest hygiene as we wanted the medical kits to be clean. The teachers were there to guide us, which made it easier for us.

  • Girl guides camp
We had a lot of fun during the 3 days/2 nights camp in Northlight. We sang songs, made kites, cooked outdoors with mesh tins, went kite-flying and had our modified campfire night. The guiders took us out for supper and told us stories about Singapore. Our seniors were enthusiastic and caring. They taught us cheers, songs and actions. We learnt a lot from them. There was also a day of games where all of us were drenched by water-bombs! It was indeed memorable and meaningful! Overall, we made many new friends and there no one was a stranger in the group anymore.

  • NLS Sports Day
As at every sports event, we volunteered to help our teachers as servers. We served our teachers drinks and refreshments under the hot sun. It was uncomfortable and tiring but we enjoyed it. The smiles and “thank-you” from the teachers made the labor worthwhile.

  • National Day Ceremony
We trained very hard alongside the NLS NCDCC for many weeks to prepare for the school’s National Day Celebrations on the 6th August 2010.

  • Geylang Serai National Day Observance Ceremony
With our training and rehearsals for the school’s National Day celebration, we also trained for the Geylang Serai Community Club’s National Day Observance ceremony. We formed the contingent for the parade alongside our NCDCC and other uniform groups from other schools. It was held on the 9th August 2010, in the open area outside of the CC. The guest of honour was the Assoc. Prof. Fatimah Lateef, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and Adviser for Marine Parade GRC GROs. It was an enriching and meaningful activity as we learnt from the other students in the parade.
