BMWORKSHOP has taken 3 students for Industrial Attachment programme in 2011. Although this is the first the company participated in the Industrial Attachment Programme ( IAP ), the company has shown its support and has given guidance to our students. Our students learnt simple computer programming, servicing and simple maintenance work of BMW cars .In addition, the company also taught the students safety and good housekeeping. Starting from this year, CapitaLand has taken in a total of 7 students for our Industrial Attachment programme. The company provided training mainly in: Service apartment and offices maintenance eg. minor maintenance work, adjustments to pop-up waste for the long bath and wash basin, bathroom wall and floor grouting, checking of lights and changing of fused bulbs, servicing of fan coil units and painting works. You have provided opportunities for our students to put into practice in what they have learnt in classrooms.

Car Hygiene & Beauty Specialist
has trained 2 students for Industrial Attachment Programme (IAP ) in 2011 . They learnt how to polish cars, change car bumpers and instal car acessories .Students put into practice what they learnt in school. 6Changi Airport Group

Students were given the opportunity to go through their YPP - youth passport programme to better understand the airport operation such as Horti Tour. Further Collabration is done to provide authentic learning experience for the students in customer service which comprise of service tour and Shadow Day.

7Cold Storage Singapore (1983) Pte Ltd

Dairy Farm, through their various retail banners extended support by providing attachment programme for NLS Retail Operations staff to their stores in Cold Storage and ShopnSave. The programme led to the different retail banners which Cold Storage, Guardian and Giant taking in a pioneer group of total 4 students to undergo Industrial Attachment training.Dairy Farm staff feedback and encouragement provided support to further enhance student preparation in the IA programme.

8Combase Engineering

Combase Engineering has been very supportive of NorthLight's Industrial Attachment Programme ( IAP ).Students learnt how to install Messaging System, Security camera, Door access system and CCTV antenna etc. In addition, the company also taught the students workplace safety and good housekeeping. Student provided feedback that company gave him the chance to gain real work experience, improved his knowledge and skills. We thank the company for the opportunity extended to our student.

9Comfort Delgro

Donation of a deregistered taxi to enhance the learning of the Mechanical Servicing modules. Cabby drivers provide � free rides home for those who are sick and also twice a year for those who need to bring the free groceries home.

10Deutche Bank

Deutche Bank set up the Career Corner for the alumni where the employers can conduct interviews for job placements.  The staff from Deutche Bank also conducted enrichment activities and bonding sessions with our students and alumni

11Deutsche Bank AG Singapore Branch

Mr Oliver Bettin has been actively involved in mobilising support for Social enterprise projects to engage NorthLight students to gain exposure and experience in enterprise experiential learning(eg the Purple Sales witht eh RO students)and in the process, in supporting the less fortunate in the community.He has also initiated "donate a day of your salary" and the amount was used to set up the career corner in the East Wing Students' recreation centre for the alumni. Employers can interview the alumni for the job placement at the career corner.

12DHL

DHL has organised various outings for our students to keep them engaged especially during the school holidays.� Places that our students have visited together with DHL staff include the Singapore Zoological Gardens and the Art Science Museum.� Such outings not only provide a good platform for our students to visit places of interest and learn interesting facts about Singapore, they also serve as meaningful opportunities for them to interact with our volunteers, thereby helping them build confidence and improve self-esteem.

13Dr Lau Kit Wan Lau Clinic, Lau Clinic

Dr. Lau has been volunteering her medical expertise to our students. She provides free medical consultation for our needy students since Jan 2007. The students appreciate the basic health care provided by Dr Lau.

14Dunman High School Community Service Club

As part of the school’s CCA Programme, the DHS Community Service Club rosters students to help out at our Student Recreation Centres from 2.30 to 5.30 pm every Wednesdays.  Other than interacting with our pupils, they also organize games and mini-competitions at the SRCs.  The students’ commitment and willingness to assist our students is very much appreciated.

Mr. Satinder Garcha and his wife, Harpreet have donated 380 theatre tickets to our school. It has benefit all Year 1 and 2 students. They were able to attend UGLY DUCKLING by the Little Company (Singapore Repertory Theatre)on the 23 March 2011.

Ms Andria Hutchins has been actively involved in extending her support to NLS by providing our students with experiential learning opportunities at the Revolution Pop Up Sale events since 2010. Our students have gained work exposure and built their confidence level through interacting with customers and in the process, in supporting the less fortunate in the community and our students needy funds.

20HCA Hospice Care

HCA Hospice Care has been active in reaching out to the Year 3 students and staff through planned lessons and materials in the Touch Of Love lessons conducted by volunteers, Susan and Paul, since 2009.They have also been instrumental in planning activities and a programme for the visits to the HCA Day Care Centre for our staff and students.Our students have learnt much about the needs of the community and serving the community from the lessons and visits.

21Health Promotion Board

HPB came in as partner with NLS this June to explore the possibility of inculcating health awareness program in our SW curriculum. They helped to design H&N lessons and have constantly came down to the school to assess their program in order to improve it further, taking into account students’ needs and schools’ constraint. They aimed to promote health awareness among students through well-designed lessons and fun activities and have proved themselves through their professionalism. Besides lessons designs for our year 3 cohort this term, they are also looking into the possibility of further programs/activities like free health-screenings, HPB exhibitions and sandwich-making competition in the coming term, with the sole objective of raising health awareness of our students. For all these, they have rendered their support to the school with sound professionalism and selfless commitment, and NLS is very grateful for their partnership and looking forward for future partnership with them.

22Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore

Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore has been very supportive of NorthLight's Industrial Attachment Programme since 2009. 23Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre

Holiday Inn Park View has been a partner since 2008 and they have provided many training opportunities for our students. That year, they worked with our students and teachers to contribute recipes for the "From Students For Students" Cookbook. They worked very closely with our teachers and in November, two teachers were attached there for orientation and work attachment. Holiday Inn Park View has also roped in their sister hotels namely Holiday Inn Atrium, Intercontinental Hotel and the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza to partner and support NorthLight School's programme.

24Home-Fix D.I.Y Pte Ltd

Home-Fix has been supporting many of NorthLight school programmes. They provided unstinting support to many NLS community outreach programmes, from home improvement at Dakota old folks' residences to Eurasian Association community projects carried out by NLS students. In addition, they provided invaluable training places for the first batch of NorthLight students (on 3-year programme) on Industrial Attachment programme, on top of training opportunities for close to a hundred students on Work Experience programme. To further encourage NLS students in their studies, Home-Fix has offered 10 scholarships, with 5 each for Retail students and 5 for Engineering students for 2010. The strong support from Ms Erica Ong and Home-Fix have further enriched the learning experience of our students.

25InterContinental Singapore

Intercontinental Singapore accepted our first two NLS students for their industrial attachment in the Pastry Kitchen back in March 2010. And in June 2010, the hotel gave attachment placement to two of our mechanical trainees assigning them to the Engineering Department. At the end of 2010, a total of eight students have successfully completed their attachment with Intercontinental Singapore.

Students enjoyed their attachment period because the company treated them like their own children and guided them in what is right and wrong.Students were trained in general maintenance in mechanical and electrical wiring work.They learnt servicing of vehicles like ambulances and the Red Rhinos. 30Kenetics Innovations Pte Ltd

Mdm Yong is the Managing Director of Kenetics have several engineering projects and 3 eateries that can offer learning opportunities for our students who are staying inhouse for their IA. In term 2, she took in 6 of students (3 from mechanical and 3 from Hospitality) to give them a chance. In addition, she offered to pay Deon $400 monthly as an encouragement to him and for him to stay on in school to be an exemplary for other students. She is keen to mould Deon and will offer him a 2-day at her eateries and 3 days in school.

31Lam Soon Singapore Pte Ltd

As part of Lam Soon's 60th Anniversary celebrations, a 60-hour Cookathon was held at Parkway Parade. Mr Matthias Yao, Mayor of SEDC, was the Guest of Honour. Seven students from 4FP2 were assigned to cook a 2-course menu. They also assisted members of the public who wanted to learn how to prepare pasta dishes. Lam Soon Singapore Pte Ltd continues to sponsor a variety of grocery products for the Retail Operations Workshop to simulate real-life retail operations training for students. In addition, Lam Soon offered groceries at discounts to our staff.

32Lawry's The Prime Rib Singapore Pte Ltd

Lawry's has taken 2 of our students for industrial attachment. The management and staff have been supportive of our students' learning. Our students have gained menu knowledge, coffee-making skills, improved service skills and learned confidence in interacting with customers. 33Marine Parade Family Service Centre

Marine Parade Family Service Centre collaborated with NorthLight School in our Service Learning lessons and Community Involvement Programme. The students were given the opportunity to plan and conduct various programmes for the elderly. Our students benefited from the sessions and can better empathize with the needs of the elderly.

34McKinsey & Company Singapore, Pte Ltd

McKinsey & Company Singapore have extended invaluable support to various NorthLight school programmes. Their team of staff provided several coaching sessions for our students, in particular to those embarking on their Industrial Attachment programme. The coaching sessions greatly helped to re-focus the students' priorities when they venture out into the working world. The encouraging results augur well for the IA programme for future groups of IA students. In addition, they help to drive the N-Reach Mentorship programme for graduating students to further realise their potentials, when they progress to work or to further studies.

35MENSA Singapore

MENSA organised the Inspiring Art 2011. Art pieces created by three NLS students were selected and printed on greeting cards. The students were given $20 vouchers and greeting cards. $300 was donated to the school's students' fund.

From collaborating on the collection and sale of pre-loved clothes to raise funds to contribute to our needy students' fund in 2009, Anthea has extended her support to mentoring NLS alumni and current students to provide extra support. 41Ms Margaret Tan

Ms Tan has volunteered her time and skills to teach our Handicraft Club students the art of beading. Under her guidance and patience, the students had made beading crafts like beaded spectacle chains, beaded keychains, beaded napkin holders, beaded containers etc. She had designed and taught the students to make the beaded spectacle chains for the elderly at Dakota Day Care Centre. The beaded handicrafts that would be exhibited at NLS foyer were creatively designed by Mrs Margaret Tan and made by our Handicraft Club students.  Previously, Ms Tan has also conducted beading workshop for our pupils during school holidays.

Ms Margaret Tan is a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer who is ever willing to assist the students in their handicraft work. She graciously imparts her creative beading skills to our students and also generously contributes her time to NorthLight School.

42Ms Peace Chitra Sayampanathan

Ms Chitra has been volunteering with the School since 2010. She comes on a WEEKLY BASIS to help students who need extra guidance and attention in the learning of mathematics.

46National Parks Board

National Parks through Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve organised a youth outreach programme entitled "Nature and Nurture" for our students in 2009. Together with their staff and volunteers from Shell, they interacted with our students through several activities. In 2010, the school involved the students with special needs in this programme. The students benefited through a greater awareness of the environment and the mentorship provided by the volunteers.

NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Ltd is a best-in-class provider of food and beverage services to organisations in Singapore. With this in mind, our NTUC partner has accepted a student for industrial attachment at the Vanda Terrace within the Orchid Country Club premise this September. During the initial start of our Industrial Attachment (IA) programme, Pizza Hut Bedok has been most accommodating and accepted two students for their attachment in July 2010. After the completion of their attachment, they continued to work for Pizza Hut on a part-time basis. Incidentally one of them was even promoted to the position of a Trainer.

PSA provides a comprehensive range of ocean and harbour marine services, terminal-related logistics services and port IT services.

Starting from this year, PSA has taken in a total of 4 students for our Industrial Attachment programme. The company provided training mainly in minor maintenance work within the main building where the office and workshop located, checking of lights and changing of fused bulbs, inspection on fire alarm system, servicing of fan coil units and painting works.

Our students are given many opportunities to serve in Rainbow Centre through interaction with their students in classroom activities and in servicing and mantainence of their therapy equipment.

57Robinson & Co (Singapore) Pte Ltd

Robinsons, through their John Little banner provided Industrial Attachment training places this year for a pioneer group of 7 students studying retail course. This is the first time students take on cashiering duties to operate Point Of Sales system. Under their close supervision and guidance the students have done well, bring along valuable learning points to share with fellow students as well as teachers.
Prior to the IA, Robinsons provided a guided tour of their department store operation for a team of 10 Retail staff, providing them with good insight on the latest industry practice.

Schneider upgraded the Electric Servicing Workshop with latest electrical equipment for student training.� In addition, they provided talk and updates on energy saving practices to our staff.�� As part of their Corporate and Social Responsibility to the community, Schneider Electric also rosters members of their staff to help out at our Student Recreation Centres on Friday afternoons.� The organisation�??s commitment to assist our students is very much appreciated and we would like to show our appreciation to Schneider Electric.

Zingrill Holdings is a foodservice organization that owns and manages renowned restaurant brands like Seoul Garden. The company started in 1983, which was then a fine-dining Korean restaurant, serving authentic Korean-cuisine. The company and its brands have since evolved through the test of time. Today, Seoul Garden is no longer a fine-dining concept but it has stuck to its belief in serving Korean-styled cuisine in a buffet-styled format at very affordable prices. The range of food served has also evolved through time to meet the local market demands. It has been Halal-certified to meet the growing needs of the Muslim market, but still retains those Korean-styled flavours that made them a household name. They have accepted three of our hospitality students for industrial attachment at the Takashimaya S C outlet in June 2011. The students have attested that while there, they are given networking opportunities like working in a team, project experience to prepare them to contribute effectively as soon as possible and meaningful hands-on exposure to develop the right attitude and aptitude for work life.

61Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd

Shell worked with Sungei Buloh to sponsor a Nature and Nurturing experience for our students with learning needs since 2010. The students have benefited from the activities (e.g. caring for the environment)and through interacting with the volunteers. This year NLS conducted a Batik-painting workshop for staff for SHELL and three kidney patients from National University Hospital. Proceeds from the auction of the paintings were donated to NLS and NUH. In addition, Shell sponsored petrol vouchers for the school's annual car rally to industry partners as part of staff development and bonding.

Silver Circle (Dakota) NTUC Eldercare collaborated with NorthLight School in our Service Learning lessons. education, the SHA is giving scholarships worth a total of more than
$9,000/- to two of our deserving students. These two scholars will be able to study in one of the Certificate programmes at the SHATEC Institutes. We would like to convey our appreciation to the SHA for their generosity to assist our students to upgrade themselves.

66Singapore Optometric Association

When our students told the teachers that they cannot see the board and the projector screen clearly, Dr Koh (Singapore Optometric Association)initiated the collaboration with the Singapore Polytechnic-University of Machester of Optometry Programme, Sin Kwang Optical Pte Ltd,
Essilor Singapore and Johnson & Johnson Vision Care to come to the rescue by providing free eye-examinations as well as the provision of glasses to students who needed them.
This project was started in the year 2009. In 2011,161 students received free glasses.
We would like to thank our partners for the gift of sight and now the students
can see clearly and they are also more attentive in class."

67Singtel

As part of their ad-hoc volunteering project, SingTel has plans to organise station games for our students. They have made 3 visits to know, plan and finalise their programme. The actual event was on 23/8/11 Tuesday from 1:45pm to 4:30pm. Classes involved are 1R2, 1R3 and 1R4. The students were divided into 8 groups with at least 4 Singtel staffs attach to each group. FTs and Co-FTs joined their class. They move from station to station collecting points. The games stations are in east and west wings student centers. At the end of the games, Singtel also provided refreshment and interacted with the students. Monetary gifts were given to the students.

69Southways Link Enterprise

Southways Link Enterprise provided 3 training places for our students in the Industrial Attachment Programme. Our students found the work in the company very challenging and demanding. However, with perseverance and close guidance from the supervisors, students learnt how to perform installation of the Air-conditioning units. They also learnt how to service the air-con. The company is very supportive and has given guidance to our students. The students found the company very conducive and they have gained useful industrial experience, improved their knowledge and skills.

70Starbucks Coffee Singapore Pte Ltd

In line with Starbuck's Corporate and Social Responsibility programme, Brew@NLS was set up in August 2010. It is a kiosk-concept operation that that serves hot & cold beverages and cakes in the East Wing Canteen. Presently, our alumni and students on in-house IA manage the kiosk supervised by the hospitality teachers.

Excel Car Service Centre Pte Ltd has been very supportive of NorthLight's Industrial Attachment Programme. Our students learnt how to do servicing of cars, computerise wheels alignment ,changing batteries and tyres ,car polishing and spraying etc. In addition, the company also taught the students safety,good work attitude and good housekeeping. Our students feedback that Excel Car Service Centre Pte Ltd gave them the chance to gain industrial experience, improve their knowledge and skills in automotive. 72Temasek Cares

Temasek Cares is a community project by Temasek Holdings. Established on 25 June 2009, it aims to contribute to the well-being, dignity and livelihood of the underprivileged in Singapore through its thrusts of building people, building community, building capability and rebuilding lives. In its second year, Temasek Cares focused on healthcare and special needs. Healthcare professionals, nurses and early intervention teachers received study awards through the Temasek Cares Building Capability Project. Pilot programmes were also launched to help the elderly age in place and support students with learning needs from the NorthLight and Assumption Pathway Schools.

Temasek Cares is providing sponsorship for the annual Parents' Camp and motivational talks and activities for NLS "N-Reach" programme to reach out and remain connected to its alumni. In addition, Temasek Cares has given generously to help the students with special needs, including engaging much needed external expertise and specialists, as well as sponsoring the kits and resources the school's educational psychologist uses for the assessment of the students. They have also sponsored the EQUAL programme for 3 years for all the year 1 students, the co-sponsors are T-Touch amd Trail Blazer. T Touch also sponsored the guitar programme.

Temasek Cares has been supporting NLS since January 2011 in its Music Club (CCA). It provided 40 Acoustic guitars and a qualified instructor to provide basic guitar training. With their support, the guitar club performed for our First Lady Mrs SR Nathan when she visited NLS.

73Temasek Informatics & IT School

Temasek Polytechnic provided their students to collaborate with NLS Staff. They created a game-based programme using Flash for the Retail, Food preparation and Mathematics Department. This game format is well suited in generating interest amongst the students, making learning more engaging and fun as well.

74The Chicken Rice Shop Restaurants (Singapore) Pte Ltd

The Chicken Rice Shop is a chain of HALAL family restaurants operated by TCRS Restaurants Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated in Malaysia. TCRS began taking in our students for their attachment from March 2010. Since then, TCRS has continued to accept our students on a regular basis.

75The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore

The Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore, a partner of NorthLight School since 2007, has provided us with two "Be a Hotelier For A Day" enrichment programmes on a yearly basis for our hospitality students. This arrangement has given our students an opportunity to experience the service skill-sets and mindsets required in the hospitality industry and certainly help to prepare them for their industrial attachment stint in their final year. Since then, they have also provided attachment placement for our engineering students in 2009 and 2010. In this way, our students can better meet the demands and expectations of the industry and the future employment landscape. Indeed a dream come true for our students to be able to work in a 5-star hotel setting. During the third quarter of every year, NorthLight School also worked closely with Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore on their Community Footprint Initiative together with Senior Activity Centre to improve the living condition of the elderly.
