Vision

That all students, through aesthetics methodologies, discover their strengths and talents to become creative, thinking and contributive individuals in the community.

Mission

Vibrant Living Through the Arts

Approach:

  • Focus on the strengths of the individual to develop greater confidence and self-esteem through the various learning processes inherent in the arts.
  • Develop thinking habits that foster some degree of analytical and critical thinking skills through an attitude of tenacity and perseverance.
  • Cultivate a culture of resourcefulness by developing a range of methods for articulating ideas though movement, visual art and music.
  • Develop technical and aesthetic skill in all areas of the arts by affirming and encouraging good effort.
  • Cultivate an arts friendly school culture by raising school awareness and appreciation for all kinds of arts forms such as drama, dance, music and visual art.

iii) Budding Talents:
Students particularly talented and interested in areas of Arts skills can pursue their interest outside the AAP and CCA programmes. Eg: Breakdance, The Girls’ Club

iv) Arts Excursion:
At least one outing per semester to an arts/cultural site.

LEVEL 1 (Head) Awareness of oneself and others

Year One:

  • Beginnings of interest, enthusiasm, intent
  • Basic display of skills and ability
  • Articulation of emotions, ideas, thoughts.

Evidence (For example)

  • Sustained effort and interest in an arts form within a lesson.
  • Articulation of likes and dislikes within themes or arts forms
  • Arts products that are ‘raw’ in nature

LEVEL 2(Heart) Awakening of one’s potential

Year Two:

  • Ease in show of interest, enthusiasm, intent
  • Ease of articulation of ideas, thoughts
  • Beginnings of self-initiated projects and curiosity in other arts activities beyond the school

Evidence (For example)

  • Easy effort and interest in arts form. Student attendance is good and sustained.
  • Students are inquisitive and display an ease of giving opinions, encouragement or feedback about their own work or the work of their peers or even the prog.
  • Students come forward to propose participation or creation of art work for the school or beyond.
  • Students ask about performances or shows outside school.

LEVEL 3 (Hands and habit) Action through one’s ability

Year Three:

  • Confidence in articulation, expression of thoughts and ideas
  • Initiative in arts-making and shows/performances.
  • Confidence in artistic skill and evaluation.
  • Confidence in contributing on a public terrain.
  • Initiative and confidence shown in other non arts areas.

  • Confident and consistent carry through of self-initiated ideas within and beyond school
  • Confident critique (strengths and weakness) on one’s work and that or others

Arts Outcomes

  • Year One: Exploration of arts, guided direction and production within school. Students as participants in external arts projects.
  • Year Two: Self initiated exploration. Students as school organizers and participants of school based arts projects. Participants and volunteers of external community arts projects.
  • Year Three: Self initiated artistic production. Students as organizers and initiators of arts in community projects.

Short Term Goals: Targets per year

The Arts Appreciation Programme (School’s IP Prog)
  • 100% articipation in Arts Appreciation Programme (AAP) for Drama, Dance, Music and Visual Art for all Year 1 and Year 2 students
  • 50% internal showcase of AAP work throughout the year in the form of Dance, Drama,Music or Visual Art
  • 90% Pass in AAP for Year 1 and Year 2 students per level.
  • 10% Distinction across Drama, Dance, Music and Visual Art for AAP Prog per level.
  • 90% positive response to having learnt more about all the Arts forms through the AAP
  • 10% distinction for Year 3 Elective Art
  • 80% pass for Year 3 Elective Art.

The Arts Outreach Plan

  • Achievement of Artist-in-School scheme for Drama and Dance programmes (AAP and Arts Outreach)
  • 20% signup for external Arts Excursions per level
  • 20% signup for participation in internal/external arts competitions/ events per level
  • 80% positive response to School’s Arts Experience and Exposure per level

Long-Term goals: Targets after 4 years

  • At least 4 student participation in Arts in the Community projects
  • At least one student organized Arts in the Community Project
